چکیده

Cassytha filiformis L. (Lauraceae), a medicinal plant is traditionally used for the treatment of cancer, African trypanosomiasis and many other related diseases. This plant has a wider distribution throughout India and used medicinally in China, Indochina, Madagascar and South Africa. Thus, Cassytha filiformis is medicinally used as an antiplatelet, vasorelaxant, alphaadrenoreceptor antagonist and also as a antitrypnosomal agents. Some of the isolated compounds from the extracts of this plant are aporphine alkaloid, oxo‐aporphine alkaloid, cassyformine, filiformine, cathaformine, lignan, actinodophine, and octenine. In modern medical research, C. filiformis has been investigated to possess a number of biologically active chemical compounds with the therapeutic potential in human health applications. In this review, we have explored the various dimensions of the plant Cassytha filiformis and compiled its few pharmacological applications to reveal its medicinal properties and its application in the pharmaceutical industries.

EVALUATION OF ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF CASSYTHA FILIFORMIS S.Mythili*, A.Sathiavelu, T.B.Sridharan

The study was aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of Cassytha filliformis for the first time. The antioxidant activity of cassytha filiformis extracts in hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol were assessed based on their radical scavenging activity (RSA) using the DPPH assay. Methanolic extract showed good antioxidant activity when compared with standard Butylated hydroytoluene(BHT). Furthe...

Plastome Evolution in the Sole Hemiparasitic Genus Laurel Dodder (Cassytha) and Insights into the Plastid Phylogenomics of Lauraceae

To date, little is known about the evolution of plastid genomes (plastomes) in Lauraceae. As one of the top five largest families in tropical forests, the Lauraceae contain many species that are important ecologically and economically. Lauraceous species also provide wonderful materials to study the evolutionary trajectory in response to parasitism because they contain both nonparasitic and par...

Epiphytic and Endophytic Phyllosphere Microflora of Cassytha Filiformis L. and Its Hosts

In the present study, samples of Cassytha filiformis L. and healthy leaves of two of its host plants viz. Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd (Nyctaginaceae) and Citrus aurantifolia Swingle (Rutaceae) were collected simultaneously from different areas of Lahore, Pakistan. To analyze epiphytic microflora, washings of host leaf/parasite stem were used for the isolation. For endophytic microbes, steri...

Studies on Cassytha filiformis from Benin: isolation, biological activities and quantification of aporphines

Cassytha filiformis (Lauraceae), a widely distributed parasitic plant, contains several aporphine alkaloids and is often used in African folk medicine to treat cancer, African trypanosomiasis and other diseases. Samples of C. filiformis from Benin were studied. We isolated and identified 6 aporphines and analysed the in vitro cytotoxic properties of four of them on different cancer and non-canc...

Pharmacological Profile of Oxazine and its Derivatives: A Mini Review

Oxazine derivatives are significant class of heterocycle compounds, which has involved much synthetic attention due to their extensive variety of pharmacological activities. Oxazine is a heterocyclic compound can be formally derived from benzene, and its reduction products, by suitable substitution of carbon (and hydrogen) atoms by nitrogen and oxygen. In the last few years oxazine derivatives ...
